ENAD - Bringing Quality Indian Theater Locally

RON - A bilingual (Bengali/English) play by Sudipto Bhawmik

ENAD presents "Ron", an original play by Sudipto Bhawmik about the continuous fight that each one of us has to go through for our physical and emotional survival, especially for those of us who are the first generation immigrants to USA. The wars we fight are not always just and fair but we still need to fight them anyway.

Ron (Ronobir) Mitra, son of a Bengali immigrant family, is a member of the US Army National Guard and is currently deployed in Iraq. Ron 's parents, Animesh and Shanti, although not happy with Ron's decision to join the US Army, respected Ron's wishes to serve his nation. However, Ron's deployment to active duty in Iraq has been a constant source of tension and anxiety. On the day of the play, at a small get together at Animesh's place, Surojit Biswas, a writer and journalist from Kolkata challenges Animesh and his guests about their loyalty, their beliefs and their fundamental moral values.  The party rapidly goes into a tailspin with each character exposing their secret wars that they have been fighting all along.

To visualize this gripping tale of the wars that we fight in our lives, watch ENAD's "Ron" on December 8th. “Ron” is a bilingual presentation (Bengali / English) with super titles in English. Please click here for colorful flyer.

Maitri is a free, confidential, referral nonprofit organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area, that primarily helps families from South Asia (Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka among others) facing domestic violence, emotional abuse, cultural alienation, human trafficking or family conflict.

Their mission is to:

  • To help integrate clients into the mainstream of American society, so that they feel comfortable and become full participants in it. Maitri recognizes that the very social and cultural separation or isolation that it's clients experience contributes largely to their problems, and is a hindrance to their solutions.
  • To focus efforts on supplementing and complementing existing services, not on duplicating them. To this end, Maitri has developed close working relationships with mainstream agencies and organizations, as well as organizations working with similar ethnic groups.
  • To work towards fostering self-reliance and self-confidence in its clients. They believe that a large number of difficulties experienced by Maitri's clients arise out of a real or perceived situation of dependency. This philosophy is encapsulated in Maitri's motto of "Helping Women to Help Themselves" and Maitris mission statement:

Maitri believes that the best human relationships are characterized by mutual respect, open communication, and individual empowerment. To that end, Maitri's activities are designed to help South Asian women make an informed choice of the lives they lead.

Agami is a non-profit charitable organization focused on promoting basic education amongst the underprivileged of Bangladesh. Various short and long-term projects will be undertaken by Agami to foster basic education in rural and poor urban slum areas of Bangladesh.

Agami’s final goal is to create a self-sustaining entity, be it a village, town, etc. The measure of success will be whether the village can become self-sufficient to the point where it no longer needs any funds from us. To that end, we wish to partner with other organizations so that together they may create a holistic solution. This solution should encompass public health, nutrition, economic self-sufficiency and education.

Organizations all over USA can reserve advertisement spaces in our souvenir.  Standard advertisement rates vary from $150 to $500. Payment of non-standard amount may be made as donations only. Checks can be written in name of either Asha for Education or Agami.  Payments made out to these organizations are known to be tax-deductible.  However, one should consult his tax advisor to confirm any such tax implication.
